Over 600 Linderners, friends and family came out to celebrate the 9th Annual Family Day with the Linden Fund organization on Sunday, July 20, 2008. The Mathewson Picnic Area reserved annually at Cedar Brook Park was the scene of a colorful display of food tents, vendor tents and individuals who came with chairs and blankets to enjoy the weather and each other’s company. Music filled the space and lots of laughter and banter flowed all afternoon, to accompany the good food, good time and yes, the slamming of the dominoes.
Linden Fund USA Vice Chairman and Chair of the New Jersey Chapter, Keith Semple expressed pleasure at the outcome of the event, saying,” We could not have hoped for better weather and a greater turnout of supporters. The number of families grew this year as well as the number of sponsorships. We will grow from strength to strength and we look forward to hosting an even bigger 10th annual Family Day next year and we plan to continue the idea of having a Bus to bring our many supporters from Brooklyn.” A steady flow of BBQ and Jerk Chicken was kept up, thanks to the masterful grilling skills of New Jersey Chapter Vice Chairman Godfrey Richmond, ably assisted by Richard Seetram, and kudos to Dawn Adams, Charmaine Critchlow and Raquel Springer, the excellent food tent crew who kept up steady service to the hungry crowd. Members of the New York and New Jersey Chapters together manned the ticket, food and refreshment booths all evening long and closed out one of the most successful days in the park, since the event began 9 years ago. Many thanks to Dominoes organizer Gilbert Joseph, and to the hardworking crew of Gordon Alleyne, Sammy David, Desmond Bacchus, Junior Hodge, Shona Wright-Hodge, Janneh Wright, Quanison Wright, Aubrey Lee, Ozzie Edwards, Linda Felix , Desiree Blackman, Steve Simon and very special thank you to Mrs. Jennifer Mapp-Dickson. Kids activities were once again coordinated by Paula Walcott-Quintin and every kid was able to get a toy and lots of candy from the piñata, one of the highlights of the day for the kids. Thanks also to Patricia, Charmaine and Desdor for initiating a 50/50 raffle which helped to raise funds for projects for the organization. Special thanks once again to Patricia Semple of Lynmine Restaurant who made major contributions of food for the event along with Colin and Yvonne Hamilton.
