The Linden Fund, USA (LFU) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Anthony S. Tim Scholarship Fund at the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School, also known as the Multilateral School. Ruth Ann Mitchell of Blueberry Hill, Wismar and Trison Browne of Manni Street, Mackenzie are the first winners of the annual G$ 10,000 scholarship, recently announced by Headmistress Gwendalyne George-Albert. Awardees are chosen by the Principal and teachers and will keep the award for 2 years, as long as a B average is maintained. (November 21, 2003)

These scholarships are provided to honor the memory of Mr. Tim, whose belief in higher education contributed greatly to the secondary school education of his nephew, Mr. Bertie Bacchus and subsequently to that of Mr. Tim's children.

Scholarship sponsor, Mr. Bertie BacchusAccording to Bertie Bacchus, who lives in Canada, "The scholarships are intended to inspire and assist parents and children in the community. I believe that students need to be encouraged and this scholarship can serve to encourage kids to work harder in school, as I was encouraged by my uncle's generosity. I am extremely grateful for all the doors that my uncle's assistance opened for me and I am pleased to do a small part in giving back something to others."

Mr. Bacchus has sponsored, for several years, the Bertie Bacchus Scholarship Fund at No. 5 Primary School, W. C. Berbice, where he attended primary school and was a teacher before working in the Guyana Civil Service.

In an earlier announcement of the program, Ms. Paula Walcott-Quintin, Board Secretary of LFU said, "We congratulate Bertie Bacchus and the Tim family for their generosity to the children of Linden and especially those who attend the Multilateral School. The Board and members of the Fund have made education a very high priority and we are pleased at the confidence that they have placed in us to launch this initiative on their behalf."
