A catalyst for economic development
LFU began 2021 firmly committed to blazing new paths meant to ignite and encourage growth and prosperity through active cultivation of new and existing collaborations with the municipal and regional infrastructure, as well as business and community partners in Linden and Region 10.
The key building blocks of this new focus are Workforce Development, Community Engagement, Small Business Development, Public/Private Partnership, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

To facilitate the initiative, LFU employed a Director of Economic Development to actively engage with key stakeholders and initiate projects focusing on economic sustainability and quality of life.

Economic development is the process of engaging in targeted activities and programs that work to improve the economic well-being and quality of life of a community by building local wealth, diversifying the economy, creating and retaining jobs, and building the local tax base.
Agricultural Internship
The Grow-Up Agricultural Internship program was designed to match college-level students, who are residents of Region 10, with experiences that allow for holistic learning with respect to farm management. Through this innovative program designed by LFU Guyana Inc. in 2022, the interns were linked to commercial farms within the region and engaged in all aspects of farm management: crop and livestock management, pest management, sales and marketing, business planning, etc.
