Dr. Salome Henry Named Among 2026 Influential Women Leaders

Hearty congratulations to Dr. Salome Henry, General Medical Officer with the Regional Democratic Council, Region 10, on being named to the Class of 2026 of the 25 Influential Women Leaders Award. This distinguished honor recognizes women who are making meaningful contributions and advancing their organizations, professions, and communities across diverse sectors. Dr. Henry's selection reflects her unwavering commitment to service, compassionate leadership, and dedication to improving the lives of others. Throughout Region 10, particularly among the elderly population, Dr. Henry has earned deep respect for her caring approach, tireless advocacy, and steadfast support of vulnerable residents. Her work continues to uplift individuals and strengthen communities, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. This recognition affirms what many in Region 10 already know: Dr. Henry's leadership, professionalism, and compassion are making a difference every day. 

PRIMUS Guyana Expands, Bringing Global Expertise Home

Driven by a commitment to creating opportunities in his birthplace, former Linden Fund USA Treasurer Janneh Wright founded PRIMUS Guyana, bringing more than two decades of expertise from PRIMUS Business Management to Guyana’s growing economy. Established three years ago, the company supports nonprofit organizations and small businesses by strengthening financial management and human resource operations. Beginning in the LFU office and later expanding to the LEN building in Linden, PRIMUS Guyana has created meaningful employment for seven professionals who provide services to U.S.-based clients. As Chief Executive Officer, Janneh oversees the management of more than US$30 million in funds and continues to share proven systems that have earned PRIMUS a trusted reputation. He is a recipient of The Network Journal’s 40 Under Forty Achievement Award, author of Black Business Success Model: Countering the Myths of Our Perceived Weaknesses, and hosted the business and financial empowerment podcast Wright on the Money. Janneh is a husband and father of two preteen girls. 

2026 Summer Opportunities for Region 10 Youth

LFU Guyana Inc. is inviting young people across Region 10 to take part in an exciting lineup of Summer 2026 activities designed to inspire leadership, service, environmental awareness, and personal growth. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to spend your summer, this is a great opportunity to get involved. Youth are encouraged to join the Nelson Mandela Day of Service on July 18, where volunteers will come together to improve community spaces while building a strong sense of civic responsibility and leadership. Apply here for the Seedling House Program (ages 12–17) and tertiary-level youths can apply here for the Agricultural Internship Program. Program participants will gain hands-on agricultural experience, visit farms, explore food production, and learn about environmental stewardship and climate resilience. Linden Duo Marks Second Anniversary of “Scotty’s Smoke House” in Georgetown

Founded by Lindeners Lennox Scott and Dijon Dey, together with entrepreneur Abbigale Loncke-Watson, Scotty’s Smoke House recently celebrated the second anniversary of its Liliendaal, Georgetown location. Since opening in May 2024, the restaurant has become known for its smoked meats and fish, as well as its welcoming indoor-outdoor setting. Building on that foundation, the partners expanded operations in 2025 with a second location in West Demerara (the “Westside”). The venture reflects the vision of two-time Taste of the Caribbean award-winning chef Lennox Scott, whose more than 26 years of culinary experience helped shape the business. During a recent visit to the Georgetown location, LFU Chair Paula Walcott-Quintin and Board Member Dr. Deon Anderson spent time with Chef Scotty and business partner Dijon Dey, celebrating this milestone and recognizing the continued growth of a Linden-inspired entrepreneurial journey.

Pre-teen Caleb Holland Inspires a Love of Reading

First-generation Guyanese and aspiring author Caleb Holland, 12, is making headlines with the launch of his debut novel, The T-Rex King: Rise of the Roaring Alliance, available on Amazon. Recently featured on CTV News Toronto, Caleb has also launched “Bring Back the Books,” an initiative encouraging children to spend less time on screens and rediscover the joy of reading. The son of former Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland and Nikos Holland, Caleb is earning recognition not only for his literary achievement but also for promoting youth literacy. As noted in an extensive feature in Village Voice, “across many countries, reading for pleasure is in significant decline among young people… only one in three children between the ages of 8 and 18 report enjoying reading in their free time, the lowest level recorded in two decades,” making Caleb’s accomplishment and advocacy especially timely.
