Post-Mash “Senior Lime” Event in Linden

The first quarter “Senior Lime” of 2025 took place on March 6 in collaboration with Ladies on a Mission (L.O.A.M). See Facebook post of the event. These quarterly gatherings at the LFU building in Mackenzie, Linden, aim to provide senior citizens with a dedicated space and time to relax, socialize, and reconnect with friends. This cherished gathering fosters community engagement and combats isolation among seniors. Thanks to a generous grant awarded to Ms. Camille Cummings from 25 Influential Women Leaders, the 2025 “Senior Lime” activities are funded, ensuring a vibrant and enjoyable experience for attendees.
The next “Senior Lime” is scheduled for June, and will feature the usual light refreshments, music, and engaging activities designed to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Seniors are encouraged to confirm their attendance in advance to assist with planning. Volunteers and sponsors are always welcome!
Three-day Teachers Workshop Held March 11-13

The 2025 edition of LFU’s Teachers Workshop took place on March 11–13 in the conference room of the LFU Building. The topic of “Literacy,” identified by the Region 10 Department of Education, was the focus of this year’s workshop. The three-day workshop was attended by more than a dozen teachers from schools in Amelia’s Ward, the target area of the restructured annual workshop, and led by Dr. Francine Brotherson, LFU Board Member and early childhood specialist, Camille Cummings, LFU collaborator, veteran educator and former head teacher of Mackenzie Primary School, and new to the team this year, Ann Phillips, retired head teacher of One Mile Primary School and a part time lecturer at the University of Guyana and the Cyril Potter College of Education. Here’s a look at the 2025 Teachers Workshop.
Join Us for our 2025 Spelling Bee on April 29 in Linden

All are invited to the Region 10 Spelling Bee for primary level students on April 29 at Lichas Hall. This event has been held each year (except for the COVID-19 interruption) since 2009, in partnership with Region 10 Department of Education, to mark the festive Linden Town Week celebrations. The Spelling Bee has attracted corporate sponsorship from ANSA McAL for the past several years and represents LFU’s commitment to its education mission in Region 10. The annual sponsorship from ANSA McAL - distributors of ICool products – has played an integral part in the longevity and success of this event. Show your support! #competition #spellingbee
Congrats to Region 10 Athletes at Nationals

Student athletes from Region 10 earned two of the top three spots at the inaugural National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships 2025 held from March 11–13 at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora. This three-day championship introduced a new format of schools, rather than districts, earning overall points. President College emerged as the top school with 257 points, while Mackenzie High School placed second with 253 points and Wismar Christianburg Secondary School (Multi) placed third with 197 points. We salute the exceptional performances of student athletes like Ebo McNeil of Mackenzie High School who won four golds (800m, 1500m and 3000m) and he was part of the winning 4x4 relay team, earning him Boys Under-17 honors. Keep up the good work, all Region 10 athletes and all those students who participated. Strong bodies and strong minds! #track&field #studentathletes
NGSA Exam is April 16 & 17 - “Good Luck Students”

The National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination (formerly Common Entrance) takes place in Guyana on April 16-17. This exam is the pathway to gain entrance to secondary schools in Guyana and as students in Region 10 and across the country prepare for this important exam, we wish them much success! One of the key missions of LFU is to enhance the lives and future of the youth in Region 10 through meaningful educational support. Specifically, for NGSA, we’ve donated supplies for Grade 6 students writing NGSA at the Christianburg & St. Aidan’s primary schools. We support annual scholarships worth $140,000 GY for Grade 6 students at St. Aidan’s Primary School in Blue Berry Hill and Howell Wilson Primary School in Ituni. Bursaries to Mackenzie Primary School. Also, each year LFU celebrates Region 10's Top 10 NGSA performers, rewarding them with one-of-a-kind Bursary Award and All Expenses Paid Day Tour in collaboration with Elite Kayaking and Nature Tours and Region 10 Tourism Committee. We acknowledge the dedication and perseverance of the students across Region 10 and Guyana as they strive for the highest grades to gain coveted placement at the nation’s top schools and more broadly, mark their journeys to secondary school. Good luck, students! #education #focus
