Region 10 Teachers Benefit from LFU Three-Day Workshop

Our annual Teachers Workshop, held from April 22-24 at Linden Technical Institute, saw the participation of 50 teachers daily for this three-day immersive event. Board member and Early Childhood Specialist, Dr. Francine Brotherson, served as overall coordinator. Secondary-level educator and LFU member, Mr. Elward Tyrell, joined the education team this year while veteran local educator and former Head Teacher of Mackenzie Primary, Teacher Camille Cummings, once again shared her treasure trove of teaching experience. Regional Education Office (acting) Mrs. La Shanna Anderson delivered greetings on behalf of the Department of Education–Region #10. Our sincere thanks for the department’s support, which is a vital part of our deep investment in our Region 10 teachers. View event pictures.

Regma Primary School Tops Annual Region 10 Spelling Bee

Competition was stiff and the audience supportively vocal at LICHAS on April 30 throughout our annual Region 10 Spelling Bee, which takes place with the generous sponsorship of ANSA McAL Guyana. In the end, Regma Primary School took home the first and second prizes, with Watooka Day Primary taking third place. Our thanks to the Department of Education–Region #10, including Ms. Rogers and all the teachers for tireless work! Thank you to our Office Manager, LFU Board and other members and friends, and parents who came out to support our Grade 5 students! “25 Years of Excellence” Open House on May 3

Our Open House at our building on Washer Pond Road, Linden, saw a wonderful day of celebration and showcase of our history timeline and programs, including booths from the Region 10 Tourism Committee Inc. and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission. During a short ceremony, The Right Reverend Charles A. Davidson, Diocese of Guyana, including Suriname and Cayenne, delivered the Invocation. LFU presented 25th Anniversary Awards for service to six local partners: Leslyn Charles, Victor Wright, Vernon Todd, Lauren Parris, Francine Major, and LFU Office Manager Cheryl Waithe. Our thanks to our volunteers, staff and Board members in attendance. The building sparkled, the take-away lunch was delicious, and spirits were high. View event pictures and NCV TV coverage.

LFU Senior Citizens Outreach Activities During LTW 2024

We undertook several outreach efforts to our community of senior citizens over the course of Linden Town Week 2024. Our activities included conducting more than 200 surveys that will enable us to learn more about the needs of our seniors as well as hosting three small-group forums at our building, led by LFU Board Member Shona Wright-Halley and member Ronald Lammy. These efforts represent just the beginning of a broader long-term strategy in collaboration with local partners in planned engagement and services in response to the needs identified by the seniors themselves. LFU members and volunteers conducted surveys during Linden Town Week, including at the Dorfolk Home’s Golden Years Club Anniversary Luncheon, Toucan Mall at Amelia’s Ward Senior Brunch & Bingo, M&TC Senior Luncheon, and Pension Day at the Wismar Post Office.
