Region 10 Spelling Bee Crowns 2025 Champion

The 2025 Region 10 Spelling Bee, sponsored by Linden Fund USA and ANSA McAL, was held on May 13 at LICHAS. Earning the top spot was Makesha Mason from Royal Halls Primary, followed by Andre Piggott from Coomacka Primary, who placed second, and Taraji Payne of Regma Primary, who placed third. The Region 10 Spelling Bee for primary level students has been held annually since 2009 with public and, more recently, private primary schools participating. Thank you to the Regional Education Department, which has supported this scholastic activity from the inception. See photos.

Congratulations to Anita Hodge, the 2024 and 2025 Northeast 10 Conference Discus Champion and the University of New Haven record holder. A repeat discus champion, Anita is a member and volunteer of LFU for a number of years. She graduated this month with a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science. Congratulations to Anita and all of the recent grads in the Class of 2025! Best wishes on your next chapter in life. #studentathlete #collegegrad


Fundraising Tea Party to Support UG Scholarship



We’re pleased to once again support the annual Tea Party which raises funds for the college-level Rufus N. McCammon Memorial Scholarship that supports students attending the University of Guyana. This elegant affair will be held on Saturday, June 14, in Manalapan, NJ. Region 10’s Zalika Samuels is Guyana’s Representative to Miss World



Linden, Region 10 resident, Zalika Samuels is in India competing for the Miss World title. A student training to be a professional nurse, Zalika was crowned Miss World Guyana and won the right to represent her country in a sparkling display of poise and talent at the Ramada Princess Hotel in December. Zalika has advanced to the Top 20 in the international contest, which concludes on May 31 in Hyderabad, India! Good luck, Zalika!
