Bringing Community Together: LFU’s 2026 Brunch Social a Resounding Success
Linden Fund USA’s annual Brunch Social, held on April 18 in Brooklyn, was a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and commitment. Lindeners and friends from across the Guyanese and wider Caribbean diaspora gathered for an afternoon filled with fellowship, laughter, and shared purpose—all in support of LFU’s ongoing work. This year’s event truly showcased the dedication and teamwork of LFU’s members and volunteers, whose tireless efforts brought the brunch to life and made it a memorable success. Special thanks are extended to former Board member Pastor Dennis Doris for his continued support, and to DJ Flexx, who kept the energy high throughout the event. SfS Scholar Syesha Fraser Crowned Miss Guyana Teen with a Purpose
Syesha Fraser, a proud scholar of Linden Fund USA’s Scholarship for Success (SfS) Cohort 3 (2020-2021), has captured national attention after being crowned “Miss Guyana Teen with a Purpose.” Syesha was supported by LFU throughout her five-year secondary journey at Queens College (Class of 2025), where she distinguished herself not only academically but through leadership and service. During her time in the SfS program, she actively engaged in LFU initiatives, including a memorable “Emancipation”-themed presentation at the inaugural LFU/L.O.A.M. “Senior Lime” in 2024, bridging generations through culture and dialogue. Representing District 10 at the national level, Syesha now uses her platform to champion self-empowerment among young women and girls. Committed to meaningful impact, she plans to collaborate with the Department of Education to raise awareness about bullying in schools. She is currently enrolled in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE-formerly 6th form) class at the Wismar Christianburg Secondary School (Multilateral) in Linden. Her journey exemplifies the power of opportunity, purpose, and community investment in shaping future leaders. #Excellence #SupportOurYouth

A Family’s Gift to Education: The Rufus N. McCammon Legacy Lives On
Marking its third year of impact, the Rufus N. McCammon Memorial Scholarship continues to open doors for aspiring university students across Linden and Region 10. Launched in 2023 through a meaningful partnership between Linden Fund USA and the McCammon family, the inaugural GY$400,000 award reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to tertiary education. Akeam Williams, Class of 2027, who is pursuing a bachelor’s of science degree in Chemistry at the University of Guyana, is the inaugural McCammon scholar. The scholarship honors the life and legacy of Rufus N. McCammon, a native of Tapacoma Lake Wyaka Landing, whose journey from humble beginnings to a distinguished 21-year career as a Senior Statistician at the United Nations exemplifies the transformative power of education. From his success in the Senior Cambridge Examination to advanced studies in Accounting in England and degrees from Fordham University, his path was defined by discipline and determination. LFU proudly acknowledges the McCammon family for this enduring investment in youth, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Spelling Bee 2026 Welcomes a New Cohort of Grade 5 Pupils
The annual primary-level Region 10 Spelling Bee gets underway on April 28 and is one of the most anticipated highlights of Linden Town Week. Hosted in partnership with the Department of Education, Region #10, and proudly sponsored by ANSA McAL—distributors of ICool products—this year’s competition continues a tradition of academic excellence and youthful brilliance. As the 2026 competition gets underway, we also reflect on when the top three Spelling Bee champions in 2024 went on to secure the top three positions in the NGSA examinations the following year—a powerful testament to consistency, preparation, and support from the village. That remarkable achievement continues to inspire Region 10 students, teachers, and families alike. Be sure to check out our Facebook preview post for a glimpse of the journey and a reminder of why we remain committed to uplifting our young scholars. Highlights of the event will be featured in our May newsletter. #Consistency #SupportOurYouth
